According to tmz.com, MTV is set to host their 2007 Video Music Awards at the Palms Hotel and Casino on September 9th. Previously, MTV hosted the Real World Season 12 at the Palms and is currently filming a reunion season there as well.
The weekend of the awards show should be full of celebrities and might be a great weekend to hit up Las Vegas. Book early though because once this hits the mainstream press, prices are certain to skyrocket. All of a sudden, this is a tantalizing weekend for a 4th 2007 trip for VegasRy.com.
MTV's return to the Palms is evidence that a partnership has apparently formed between the media giant and the Las Vegas hot spot. Hopefully, this relationship will provide future Vegas programming. Note to those in charge though..."Sweet 16: Vegas style" is not what we are looking for in terms of programming.
As for the question: MTV + Palms = ??? That hopefully will be fully answered in the months to come. So far they've done right by themselves as opposed to E's airing of "Paradise City," which a bulk of was also filmed in and around the Palms.
How could you or anyone for that matter forget me? In 2002, while on season 12 of MTV’s The Real World, my suite mates and I put Las Vegas on the map. That $2 million Palms suite we lived in for several months hasn't been the same since. I mention this because just recently MTV approached me and my cast mates about shooting a 6 episode reunion or sorts in the same Palms suite.
Everyone else jumped at the chance to re-emerge on the scene which has since left them all behind. I, on the other hand, have a career unlike any other “Real Worlder.” I’ve taken my celebrity to new heights and am of course the cliff hanger for the potential reunion. With this in mind, at the urging of my agent (hell yes, I have an agent!), I initially held out because MTV certainly will bring out all the stops to pay me if they really want to see this show happen. You might ask how I know this. I know this because they already know that I don’t work for free any longer. I have a rather impressive resume now if I do say so myself. Now I'm not one to ever turn down a chance to be seen on television (see my laundry list of tv and movie roles at imdb.com), but this 'go round is a bit different. Expectations are super high and I have to outdo my own personal [whorish] performance which really intrigues me. In light of that, my agent worked out a very lucrative incentive-based contract for the reunion. I am not free to discuss all of the details but do expect to see a Trishelle unlike you have ever seen. Incentives are tied to events that boost what MTV refers to as my slut-factor. I think this could be a super pay day. Unfortunately, only six episodes have been greenlit, so there is no time to screw around. (uhhh no pun intended, plenty of screwing, yet no beating around the bush...again no pun intended...you know what I mean) Expect episode one to kick off with a bang.
Getting called "slutty" by Sally Jesse Raphael while on The Surreal Life was the pinnacle of my career and I intend to put that performance to shame. MTV may end up making this a full season as I'm going to leave no film roll to be wasted. I'm on my way back Vegas so you better be ready. Stay tuned as my slut-factor goes through the roof.
A proposal to bring an NBA team to Las Vegas was sent to NBA commissioner David Stern today. Stern has long been opposed to such an expansion if gambling is allowed. He ok'd the All-Star game this year because the city agreed to take the game off of all sports books. The proposal did not include such an exception and unless Stern has a change of heart, has little chance of succeeding.
My opinion is that Las Vegas isn't a good candidate for a professional sports team. This year's NBA All-Star game fiasco aside, I can't see a team being successful on many fronts in Vegas. First, there is just too much going on to make it a big enough draw. Second, only "big" games will bring in reasonable crowds to generate the needed revenues of running a pro sports team. Lastly, Vegas is not the place for immature overpaid athletes. Unless a team of Shane Battier's were fronted, I foresee a Las Vegas team becoming the next Cincinatti Bengals. This is a reference to the frequent arrests the Bengals' players have been involved with recently.
The Maloof brothers (the Palms and Sacramento King's owners) recently said they were in favor of an NBA team being hosted in Las Vegas. (the assumption here is that their favor equates to them believing a team can thrive there) They certainly have a better business sense than I do, but this is one idea that I have to see to believe. It just doesn't seem wise as an owner, player, nor a fan.

LAS VEGAS -- Miami Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter was facing a misdemeanor battery charge Monday after police said he punched a National Football League rival after they exchanged trash talk at a casino blackjack table.
Porter was issued a summons after the 6:55 p.m. Sunday altercation with Cincinnati Bengals offensive tackle Levi Jones that Las Vegas police Officer Martin Wright said began inside the Palms hotel-casino.
